Korean Documents for Austria
Austria has been a member of the Hague Apostille Convention since 1968, so where a Korean public document needs authentication, an apostille is sufficient and no legalization at the Austrian Embassy in Seoul is needed. Government and local-authority documents are apostilled by the Overseas Koreans Agency (OKA); notarized private documents by the Ministry of Justice. For the Red-White-Red Card (Rot-Weiß-Rot-Karte) and the EU Blue Card, documents in German or English need no translation; documents in other languages must be translated into German or English. Apostille requirements vary by authority (Lower Austria, for example, asks for an apostille and German translation of the birth certificate and police certificate), so check before submitting. Our specialists can help where an apostille and translation are needed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Austria accept OKA apostille? Is Austrian Embassy legalization needed?
Yes. Austria has been a Hague Convention member since 1968 and Korea is also a member, so where a Korean public document needs authentication, an apostille is sufficient. No legalization at the Austrian Embassy in Seoul is needed. The competent authority decides which documents need an apostille, so check in advance.
What is the Red-White-Red Card and what Korean documents does it require?
The Red-White-Red Card (Rot-Weiß-Rot-Karte) is Austria's residence and work permit for non-EU skilled workers. You apply at the Austrian Embassy or the residence authority in Austria (your employer can also apply at the residence authority), and the AMS checks the criteria. Under the federal checklist, documents are submitted as originals and copies, documents not in German or English must be translated into German or English, and the authority may ask for certified documents. Requirements differ by state: Lower Austria asks for an apostille and German translation of the birth certificate and police certificate.
What is Nostrifizierung and what documents do I need?
Nostrifizierung is the process of having a foreign degree recognized as equivalent to an Austrian degree. Whether you need it, and which documents (including authentication and translation) you must submit, is decided by the responsible Austrian university or authority, so check before applying.
What Korean documents are needed for marriage at an Austrian Standesamt?
Requirements depend on nationality and district, so check with your Standesamt first. If an apostille or German translation of Korean documents is required, our specialists can help.
